In the 4th century B.C.E. Plato, one of the world’s greatest philosophers, wrote about a city of splendor and wealth; a continent rich not only in agriculture, farming, and animals (including elephants), but also in gold, copper and silver. The people of this land possessed an advanced technology far superior to anything that existed during Plato’s time. This land was known as Atlantis.
According to Plato, it was a growing materiality among the people of Atlantis that caused the gods to become angry (in particular, Zeus), who then destroyed the island.
