One day I was at my favorite bookstore, and as I walked past a row of books, my purse hit one and knocked it to the floor. It was a book on angels. I flipped through it and thought it looked really interesting, but I put it back, thinking it would have been a frivolous purchase.

Later that day I happened to overhear a woman talking about how books jump off the shelves at bookstores when she’s supposed to read one. This made me think about my own experience earlier with the angel book. I wished I would have bought it, and I felt this was a sign confirming that it was a good idea!

Whether dreaming of our own death, or the death of a friend or loved one, dreams of death and dying can leave us a bit shaken. We may wonder if the dream was an omen, and worry for the welfare of the one we dreamed of.

Most often, however, dreaming of death is a message that great transformation is about to touch our lives.

What would a dreamer say about the symbolism of the popular holiday carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas?”

On the first day of Christmas my True Love gave to me:
True Love represents that aspect of ourselves that never buys into the dramas, lies, or outdated belief systems that we love to carry around with us. True Love towards ourselves is understanding, compassion and acceptance.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
The pear is symbolic of hope, balance and love. The Partridge symbolizes fertility, and reminds us that it takes intent to walk a spiritual path. We can just as easily fall into patterns of addiction and destruction as we can walk a path of truth and light.

Two Turtle Doves
Doves represent peace and harmony. Two of them represent a harmonious relationship.

There are few creatures whose very presence can evoke a shudder of fear. In fact, even the most harmless of snakes can send chills down the spine, and send a grown man running for safety, screaming like a little girl.

And with good cause; many snakes are deadly. They are wriggly, odd, unpredictable, creatures. Even when they are non-poisonous, snakes are mysterious, and remind us that there is a world out there that to us is vastly unknown.

Stories of the dead haunting the living have been told for thousands of years. But have you ever thought that maybe they just have something to say?

Just because someone crosses over, doesn’t mean that they are released from the cares and concerns of the earthly life they once knew. Many times the dead worry about family, friends and loved ones, or perhaps they have important information to share about their own death, or an upcoming event.

Angels are known as messengers of the Divine. Archangel Gabriel gave the message to Mary about the birth of Christ, and recited the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad. An angel appeared to St. John the Divine, in the Essene Book of Revelation, with a prophecy about heaven on earth.

Angels don’t appear for the small stuff. When they come, it’s for something big, so to dream about angels means they have a rather important message. And whether you see angels as symbolic representations of higher consciousness, or spiritual beings of light, their appearance in a dream can be life changing.

Keeping a dream journal is by far one of the best ways to work with your dreams. But it’s very important to write down your dreams first thing in the morning. Dreams are ethereal things, and tend to fade the moment we awaken.

When most people see a piece of artwork depicting a mother cradling an infant, thoughts of nurturing, mothering, or love may come to mind.

The symbol of the mother is a universal symbol, so from culture to culture, many people would view this expression of motherhood in the same way.

Universal symbols are symbols that have similar meanings around the world, no matter the culture. Examples of universal symbols would be a dove, water, a snake, the mother, the father, the child, the moon, a circle, a star, or a rose.
